Explaining your business is not easy. You have to approach people that are normally skeptical, people that have heard, read or seen other business ideas and are analyzing with detail everything you present.
Everything is way easier if you do it with a video.
If you go to any well know startup event, you’ll see that explicative videos are everywhere. How to explain your ideas with a video? Let’s find out.
1 – Know exactly who you are talking to
When you introduce your idea, you don’t have to address the entire world. This is how you go unnoticed and nobody will relate. You have to introduce your idea as if it’s going to capture only one person’s ear: your ideal customer.
Your corporate or commercial video must have references to situations in which that ideal client will feel identified. This way they will see the functionality of your product, service or company and won’t be distracted, as your video will be talking about something they already know and want to solve.
2 – Create a story with video production
There are many ways to create an explanatory promotional video for a business idea, but our experience says that the best one is storytelling. So instead of creating the typical corporate video, create a story that makes the client feel that that is their story.
When you combine your concept with a story you stimulates memory, increase interaction and what you say is easily remembered.
3 – Add graphics to your video production
Don’t fill your video with words and text; nobody will read that. Use graphics, footage, illustrations, and characters that star in your story so that you can get the message through without needing a lot of effort from your ideal customer.
4 – Talk benefits in your corporate video
Sometimes, when introducing a startup, we tend to talk too much about how it’s done, what technology it’s based on, and several technical aspects that our audience is not interested in. We love what we’ve done and we want everyone to know as much as possible, but it’s not necessary nor recommended to tell all of this.
Your explanation must be based on the benefits rather than the features of what you are offering. Nobody knows how Uber is coded, but they know it’s a “Car-for-hire” service, right? You have to be remembered for some benefit likewise.
Translating your features into benefits is not hard, you only have to ask the right question: “so what?” Look at this example:
- I have a keyword search engine based in a new algorithm
- So what?
- Well, it works faster and it’s more intuitive than the others.
- So what?
- It will allow you find the best keywords for your business to increase organic reach.
- So what?
- It will increase the number of visitors coming to your website and enhance the sales of your company.
As you can see, it’s a simple process. You have to break down every single thing you think about until you can’t simplify it any longer. Saying “keyword search engine based in a new algorithm” won’t get anyone’s attention, but saying “increasing the number of visits and sales” surely does, right?
